Coach Lisa Bradley

Champion – a person who has defeated all opponents in competition; a person who fights for or defends any person or cause; a fighter or warrior

Men's basketball and Coach Lisa Bradley are almost one in the same at Valor Christian College; for, she has been both the visionary and the implementer of the college's first athletic program.  In doing so she has set a few records along the way, including becoming the first woman in US history to coach a men's collegiate basketball team. Ms. Bradley has just completed her 5th year as Head Coach and Athletic Director, and she has certainly shaped the Warriors into a formidable team.

Coach Bradley is very quick to tell all who will listen that it has been God Himself Who has "showed up, showed off, and showed out." From the very beginning this program has had a divine mandate. Even now, Bradley will passionately rehearse that which the Lord told her in January of 2000:

The battle rages to keep World Harvest athletics on the lower end of the scale. But I will turn the scales and make World Harvest athletics a world class sports program. I will stage some of my greatest victories in the arena of sports. Lay this foundation with the spirit of excellence I have placed on the inside. Go forth and do that which I have directed. Submit to the authorities I have placed above you. I channel the hearts of kings like a stream of water. Go forth under my banner of victory; go forth with a shout of triumph. Now praise me.

If anyone were to doubt the validity and accuracy of that Word, they would only have to look as far as the Warriors' inaugural season. It truly was a miracle but all athletic standards. 20-9 in their first year, they finished as the 2001 Division I National Runner-Up in the National Bible College Athletic Association (NBCAA), losing by only 2 points in overtime to the team who, by winning, brought home their third consecutive national title.

Coach Bradley is no stranger to success. A 2,015 point record in high school (which was made prior to the 3-point shot and which, incidentally, still stands), a career at the University of Illinois where she was a four-year starter and standout who led the Fighting Illini to three NCAA appearances (84, 85, 86), and at the time of her departure being the second winningest coach in Miami's history are all hallmarks of success. Bradley has been and remains a champion in the truest sense of the word.

A childhood dream had come true when Lisa Bradley became one of the youngest Division I head coaches at the age of 27. In fact, Bradley coached a total of nine years at The Miami University of Ohio (1989 – 1998), five years as the Head Coach. While there, she compiled a 73-40 overall record, which included a 53-24 mark in the Mid-America Conference (MAC). Yet, even with four consecutive NCAA Final Four appearances, it was not enough.

Lisa Bradley had begun to attend World Harvest Church in Columbus, Ohio. She would travel 4 ½ hours every week to simply attend services. As she sat week after week and month after month, the Lord began to deal with her about leaving Miami. He instructed her to "Go to World Harvest and implement athletics at Valor." In her own words, Coach Bradley "had to die, to live again." She seemed to be turning away from the very thing that she had desired and worked so hard to attain. It did not make sense that she would leave her head coaching position at a Division I school in order to go to a Bible college that did not even have plans for basketball program.

However, Pastor Rod Parsley insists that "God hand selected the lady to do the job" when He asked Lisa Bradley to take on the challenge of developing a world class program at Valor. Under her leadership World Harvest can now boast a 96-53 overall record. Instead of destroying or taking away from her success, her time as the Warriors Head Coach has only enhanced that which she had already accomplished.

Under Bradley's tutelage World Harvest Bible clinched the school's first ever national title on March 16, 2002, when they won the NBCAA Division I National Championship.  The victory was especially sweet because it was won on the Warriors' new home court, a court that is part of a multi-million dollar athletic facility and had been dedicated to Coach Lisa Bradley in January of the same year. Bradley Hall stands as a testimony to what will happen when someone dares to step out and believe the promises of God.

During the 2002-2003 season the Warriors went on to be the USCAA No. 1 Seed. Then, they finished with an 18-11 record. What a phenomenal feat for a program that was only in its third year.

After taking a four year hiatus, during which Coach Bradley published her autobiography, For His Glory, she returned to Valor Christian College to reinstitute athletics. In their first season of reinstitution the Warriors finished with an 18-6 record.  Then, this past season she led the Warriors to another championship - the first ever Ohio Collegiate Athletic Conference (OCAC) invitational tournament.  Their season record was 21-5.

Over the five seasons that Coach Bradley has taken the helm she has cemented her legacy as one of the greatest women coaches in the country. She brings her expertise and excellence to the court as a coach and mentor that is rivaled only by her determination to live her faith before her players and the entire college. Coach Bradley will argue with anyone who suggests that it is all about basketball. For her, it is all about championing the cause of Christ.

No one can argue with the fact that God has done something truly amazing at World Harvest Bible College. And Coach Bradley reminds us that God is faithful to perform what which He says He will do!
